Free Compression Tool for Mac OS X

Compression Tool creates nice clean zip file for distribution amongst Windows and Linux users (and Mac OS X users too). It doesn't include the D_Store files in the zip file.

Besides zip files, Compression Tool can also create files in dmg, bz2, tar, gzip and tgz and 7zip formats. Mac OS X can decompress all these formats, but if you want to create files in these formats without Compression Tool, you would need to use the terminal or install special software.


For now, this utility can compress files only. Decompression features will be added in a future version. Note that Mac OS X's built-in unzip utiliy can't unzip password-protected zip files.

This version of Compression Tool is completely free. Please make sure to read the license conditions before installing and using the software.

This utility is known to run fine on Mac OS X 10.4.11 and later, but might also work on Mac OS X 10.3.9.
